Theory test

Theory test breakdown

This section is to simply break down the theory part of the test for you. It is split into 2 parts, firstly a set of multiple-choice questions then hazard perception. You must achieve a pass mark of 43 / 50 in the Theory Test and a minimum of 44 / 75 in the Hazard Perception test. Rest assured it’s not as scary as it sounds.

Theory questions

Think of this part of the test more as your general knowledge and understanding of the road and what to look out for. We can recommend a lot of useful up to date recourses to help you with the questions.

Hazard perception

Before you start the hazard perception test, you’ll be shown a video about how it works. You will then be shown 14 videos representing everyday road scenes. It’s your job to look out for developing hazards and click on the them when you see them. You get points for spotting the developing hazards as soon as they start to happen.

 

An example of a developing hazard could be;

An object, car, person, animal or thing that makes you change your speed or direction to prevent an accident. It is something however you have seen in advanced before it happens.

 

Don’t try to be smart and click frequently as this will result in a zero score for the clip.
